Hong Kong Villa

Hong Kong

For this Hong Kong residence, Egan, embraced a thoughtful approach, making minimal structural changes while maximizing the space’s usability and character. Collaborating with local craftspeople, Egan introduced custom wood-panelled walls and sleek built-in shelving to transform the living area into a multifunctional haven. The design reimagines the formal living room—often underutilized—as a cozy, inviting space tailored to the homeowner’s vision.

His philosophy extends beyond aesthetics to a practical methodology. Egan helps clients discern which items are truly valuable and which are superfluous, focusing on what’s useful and meaningful to create a space that feels authentic and personal.

True to his ethos, he ensures every project reflects the client’s personality, not the designer’s signature style. “When you look at some houses, it feels like the decorator was there, but the client wasn’t. My goal is always to make the space look like the client’s home—not mine.”

This is especially evident when working with collectors, seamlessly integrating their art and treasures into a design that feels both cohesive and uniquely their own. In this Hong Kong home, the result is a warm, functional, and deeply personal living space—a perfect balance of craftsmanship and individuality.
